Dear Secondary 1 Express students,

I hope you are excited to embark on this E-learning journey with me! Today, we will learn about some Chinese traditions and a traditional Chinese saying. Thereafter, we would watch a music video followed by 10 short questions and a free response question (to be answered under 'Comments').

Total marks = 20

Do this assignment really well, for it would make up 10% of your CA2 results.

Should you need some E-resources, I've provided some on the right sidebar: online Chinese input editor (to type Chinese words without installing software on your computer), online dictionary and online reader (which provides you the hanyu pinyin, meaning of words and reads out the text for you when click on 'listen').

开门七件事是古代中国平民百姓每天为生活而奔波的七件事，已成为中国的谚语。从“开门”（即开始家庭一天正常运作之时或持家，维持生计），就都离不开七件维持日常生活的必需品，分别是：柴、米、油、盐、酱、醋、茶。开门七件事提示家庭各样必需品。

很多文人雅士的歌吟都以开门七件事为题，并流存在民间。开门七件事的排列和内容都大有讲究，全都与中国历史悠久的饮食文化有关。时至今日，开门七件事的意义已与古时有别，主要泛指与人民有切身利益的必备事情。

随着社会进步和人民生活水平不断提升，开门七件事都随之而进步。在现代中国大多地区，柴已被石油气、天然气和煤气等所取代。米、油、盐、酱、醋仍是中国饮食 文化的主要组成部分；至于茶则成为独当一面的茶文化而闻名于世。从另一方面看，开门七件事在生活上所花的时间已大不如前了。从前开门七件事占去了相当的时间，但现在取得和处理它们的途径越来越简便了。
